Knock Castle is a manor house near the Scottish town of Largs in the North Ayrshire Council Area . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

Construction of the mansion began in 1851 and was completed the following year. The Glasgow architect John Thomas Rochead was responsible for the design . The client was the businessman Robert Steele from Greenock . An extension on the east side took place in 1908. For this, the architectural office Fryers & Penman provided a design that forms a stylistic unit with the original building.

description

The Tudor Gothic mansion is isolated off the A78 near the south bank of the Firth of Clyde between Largs and Skelmorlie . The facades of the two-story building are clad with polished, yellow ashlar stones. The entrance area is on the north side in a three-story tower with a square floor plan. It is worked with a Tudor arch. A flat bay window emerges above it. Similar to the other parts of the building, windows are installed as twin or triple windows with stone central posts. Belt cornices mark the floor delimitation. Another tower with an octagonal floor plan rises up next to the tower . The building ends with a crenellated reinforcement that conceals the roofs.
