Knut Fægri

Knut Fægri (born July 17, 1909 in Bergen , † December 10, 2001 ) was a Norwegian botanist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " Faegri ".

Life

He received his doctorate in 1934 for studies on the vegetation of the moraines on Nigardsbreen in Jostedalen . With this work he laid the foundation for lichenometry .

Together with Johannes Iversen , he continued Lennart von Post's ideas and related pollen finds to plant geography, climate changes and human influences. He also worked with Leendert van der Pijl on the ecology of pollen.

Fægri produced around 550 publications. Many of them appeared in the popular scientific journal Naturen , of which he was editor from 1947 to 1978.
