Leendert van der Pijl

Leendert van der Pijl (born December 21, 1903 in Utrecht , † April 16, 1990 in The Hague ) was a Dutch botanist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " Pijl ".

He studied at the University of Amsterdam from 1922 to 1927 and received his doctorate in 1934 for his work on the polyembryony of Eugenia . In 1924 he became a teacher of natural history in Arnhem . In 1926 he went to the Christian Lyceum in Bandung , where he became a teacher and later also rector. With an interruption due to the relocation to the Netherlands as a result of the occupation of the island by Japanese troops, he worked there until 1947. Then he became professor of botany at the Institute Teknologi Bandung . In 1954 he resigned and moved to The Hague , where he became a teacher at a middle school. In 1969 he became a lecturer in botany at Radboud University Nijmegen .

He mainly dealt with problems of flower biology and worked on the flora of Indonesia .
