Tomas Backman (born June 16, 1980 ) is a Swedish football player . The midfielder won the Swedish Cup in 2004 with Djurgårdens IF .

Career

Backman started playing soccer at Kubbe / Norrflärke IF . He later moved to the youth department of Anundsjö IF before moving on to the then third division side Friska Viljor FC in 1999. There he was first noticed in 2001 by those responsible for Djurgårdens IF and was invited to a trial training session. Nevertheless, he stayed with the club for the time being, with whom he rose to the Superettan in 2003 . In the first half of the second division season in 2004 , he was used in 13 games and scored two goals. In the summer he moved to Allsvenskan for Djurgårdens IF. On November 11th of that year he played in the cup final against IFK Göteborg and celebrated the cup victory after a 3-1 win.

In the following season Backman found himself on the bench. Until July he stayed without a job in the Allsvenskan and was therefore loaned to league rivals GIF Sundsvall by his club in the summer . It was also awarded the following year. At Östers IF he was one of the regulars in the Allsvenskan, but could not avoid the club's relegation to the second division. Although the club subsequently tried to get the left-footer firmly committed, he canceled due to the unresolved coaching question about the separation from Lars Jacobsson at the club and moved to Jönköpings Södra IF .

In the second division season in 2008 Backman finished third from last in the league with Jönköpings Södra IF. Then the team met in the relegation games on his former club Östers IF. After the first leg ended with a 1: 2 defeat, Backman was able to enter the scorers list next to the two-time goalscorer Kristen Viikmäe in the 3-0 second leg win, which meant relegation . In the following season he had to take a break due to injury, but at the end of 2009 he extended his contract with the club. In the 2010 season he finally belonged again for long stretches to the regular players in the midfield of the second division club.
