Knut Schnurer (born January 12, 1920 in Kösching ; † April 20, 2007 in Ingolstadt ) was a German painter of mostly Cubist pictures.

Life

Knut Schnurer was born in Kösching / Upper Bavaria in 1920 as the son of the teacher Franz Josef Schnurer, who was later head of the Canisiuskonvikt in Ingolstadt until his death. He attended the humanistic grammar school in Ingolstadt, where his drawing teacher Wilhelm Krauss made him familiar with modern art during the Third Reich. After graduating from high school, he was obliged to do labor service in 1939 and then came as a soldier to Norway and into French captivity until 1945 - a time that shaped the artist throughout his life and whose impressions he repeatedly tried to process in his pictures.

After his return to Ingolstadt he worked as a freelance artist. He had his first exhibition successes in Munich in the late 1950s. In 1963 he was awarded the Ingolstadt Art Prize. He often worked for public and church clients. The funeral hall at Ingolstadt's southern cemetery is an example of this. Knut Schnurer spent his last years in a nursing home in Ingolstadt.
