Ko Kho Khao ( Thai : เกาะ คอ เขา ) is a subdistrict ( tambon ) in the district ( Amphoe ) Takua Pa , Phang Nga Province in the southern region of Thailand . The district of Ko Kho Khao extends over the island of the same name on the west coast of Thailand.
Archaeological site
In the corridor of the village of Thung Tuek ( บ้าน ทุ่ง ตึก ), directly opposite the mouth of the Takua Pa River, there is an archaeological site.
Ko Kho Khao is interesting for two reasons: firstly, it was a center of the trans-Isthmian re-export trade across the Isthmus of Kra for a variety of ceramics from the Middle East and China , and secondly, an inscription was found in Tamil language that denotes the Describes the construction of a water reservoir with the help of Indian merchants, at which Indian guards are said to have been present. This is very rare information about the presence of Indian groups in Southeast Asia . The reservoir was actually found to be approximately 880 meters by 200 meters.
The first excavations were carried out on site in 1909 by Prince Vajiravudh , later King Rama VI.
Ko Kho Khao shows the establishment and maintenance of international trade routes during the first millennium.
