Mehdi Bennani (born August 25, 1983 in Fès ) is a Moroccan racing driver .

Career

Beginnings in motorsport

Like most racing drivers, Mehdi Bennani started karting and won the Moroccan championship in 2001. He also won the Moroccan Fiat Palio Trophy in the same year . He then switched to the Monoposti and was runner-up in Formula BMW Asia in 2004 . From 2005 he drove for the Avalon Formula Team in the Formula Renault 3.5 series, where he competed against drivers like Robert Kubica. He started in 2006 for the EuroInternational team. In 2007 he moved to the Euroseries 3000 , in which he came fourth. In 2008 he started in Pau at the Pau Historic Grand Prix , which he finished second.

World Touring Car Championship

In May 2009 Bennani made his debut in the World Touring Car Championship at the Marrakech Street Circuit in his home town . He drove a Seat Leon 2.0 TFSI , which was prepared by Exagon Engineering . It was sponsored by the Moroccan Tourism Association. Bennani was the first North African in the WTCC, which also held its first race on the African continent. He qualified for 14th place on the grid and finished the first race in ninth and best privateer driver. In the second race he was also ninth and could therefore recommend himself for further assignments in the WTCC. Exagon Engineering used it in four other races.

In 2010 Bennani will drive a BMW 320si from the Wiechers Sport team.
