Kochstrasse (Wernigerode)
The Cook Street is one of the major cross streets in the old town of Wernigerode in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt . It runs in a south-north direction from Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Straße, where it joins Marktstraße , to Unterengengasse.
history
The Kochstraße was to the 16th century Tescherstraße (probably are soft or Taschenmacher road) called and in the first half of the 17th century after a middle-class family and Mater road , since the 18th century, it bears its current name. The part of the street between Oberengengasse and today's Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Straße was called Ritterhöfen and was not renamed until the end of the 19th century. The name Kochstraße can be traced back to the chef Christian Hildebrandt, who lives in the street. During the bombing raid on Wernigerode on February 22nd, 1944, many buildings in the southern part of the street were destroyed; there are still open spaces and garages there today. The street can be used as a one-way street with motor vehicles.
There are several listed buildings on the west and east sides of Kochstrasse. According to the list of cultural monuments in Wernigerode, these include :
