Kodardas Kalidas Shah ( Tamil : கோதர்தாஸ் காளிதாஸ் ஷா .; Born October 15, 1908 in Goregaon, Kolaba District , Presidency of Bombay , British India , † March 14, 1986 in Calcutta ) was an Indian politician of the Indian National Congress (INC), who between He held various ministerial posts in 1967 and 1971 and served as governor of Tamil Nadu from 1971 to 1976 .

Life

Shah, son of Kalidas Bechardas Shah, first completed an undergraduate degree , which he completed with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). A postgraduate course of the law , he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from (LL.B.) and was followed as Solicitor operates. After India's independence, he began his political career in the Indian National Congress (INC), for which he was elected a member of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Bombay in 1952. He was active as Secretary General, Vice President and President of the INC Provincial Committee of Bombay. On April 3, 1960 he was for the INC member of the Rajya Sabha , the upper house of the Indian Parliament (Bhāratīya saṃsa) , in which he represented the interests of the state of Maharashtra until May 22, 1971 . Between 1962 and 1963 he was also Secretary General of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), the presidium of the INC.

In the first cabinet of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi , Kodardas Kalidas Shah took over the office of Minister for Information and Broadcasting on March 13, 1967, which he held until his replacement by Satya Narayan Sinha on February 14, 1969. As part of this cabinet reshuffle, he took over the post of Minister for Health and Family Planning from Satya Narayan Sinha on February 14, 1969 and was also the new Minister for Public Works, Housing and Urban Development from February 14, 1969 to March 18, 1971. At the same time he was from 1969 to May 1971 as the majority leader Leader of the House of the Rajya Sabha. In Indira Gandhi's second cabinet , he continued to serve as Minister of Health and Family Planning between March 18 and May 19, 1971, and was then replaced by Uma Shankar Dikshit .

Shah in turn took over on May 27, 1971 from Ujjal Singh the post of governor of Tamil Nadu and held this until June 15, 1971, whereupon Mohan Lal Sukhadia was his successor.

His marriage to Madhuben K. Shah resulted in two sons and three daughters.
