Satya Narayan Sinha

Satya Narayan Sinha ( Hindi : सत्य नारायण सिन्हा ; * July 9, 1900 in Shambhupatti, Darbhanga Division , Bengal Presidency , British India ; † July 26, 1983 in Samastipur, Darbhanga Division, Bihar ) was an Indian politician of the Indian National Congress (INC ), who was minister in various union governments and governor of Madhya Pradesh from 1971 to 1977 .

Life

Start of political career, Lok Sabha member and junior minister

Satya Narayan Sinha, son of Beni Prasad Sinha, completed after visiting the Muzaffarpur Zila School to study law at the University Fatna and was then as a farmer and Zamindar operates. He joined Mahatma Gandhi's nonviolent campaign for India's independence in 1920 . In 1926 he was elected a member of the Legislative Council of Bihar and was a member of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), the presidium of the INC. At the same time he was President of the Indian National Congress (INC) in the Darbhanga Division from 1930 to 1947 and was elected a member of the Central Legislative Assembly of Bihar Province in 1934. In this he was first Parliamentary Managing Director ( Whip ) in 1937 and Parliamentary Chief Executive (Chief Whip) of the INC. He was also Secretary General of the INC of Bihar Province between 1942 and 1947 and was re-elected as a member of the Central Legislative Assembly of Bihar Province in 1945, in which he was again Parliamentary General Manager (Chief Whip) of the INC in 1946 .

After India gained independence from the United Kingdom on August 15, 1947, Sinha was first secretary of the majority leader in the Constituent Assembly (Leader of the House) in 1948 . In the first cabinet of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru , he served as Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs from 1948 to April 15, 1952. In the first election from October 25, 1951 to February 21, 1952 for the Indian National Congress (INC) for the first time to a member of the Lok Sabha , the lower house of the Indian parliament (Bhāratīya saṃsa) was elected. He belonged to this after his re-election in the election between February 24 and March 15, 1957 , the election from February 19 to 25, 1962 and the election from February 15 to 21, 1967 up to the election from 1 to 10 March 1971 and last represented the Darbhanga constituency in the state of Bihar .

Cabinet Minister and Governor of Madhya Pradesh

In the second Nehru cabinet , Satya Narayan Sinha served as minister for parliamentary affairs from May 13, 1952 to April 5, 1957 and in the subsequent third Nehru cabinet as minister of state for parliamentary affairs between April 17, 1957 and April 2, 1962. On April 2, 1962, he was again Minister for Parliamentary Affairs in the fourth Nehru cabinet and held this office until June 9, 1964. As such, he officially became cabinet minister in May 1962. In addition, he succeeded Bezawada Gopala Reddy as Minister for Information and Broadcasting in September 1963 and also held this post until June 9, 1964. He was then in the cabinet of Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri between June 9, 1964 and June 24, 1964. January 1966 again Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and in personal union from 9 to 15 June 1964 first Minister for Civil Aviation and then between 15 June 1964 and 24 January 1966 Minister of Communications.

In the first cabinet of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi , Sinha took over the post of Minister for Parliamentary Affairs again on January 24, 1966, as well as Minister of Communications, and was replaced in both functions on March 13, 1967 by Ram Subhag Singh . He then served as Minister without Portfolio between March 13 and September 5, 1967. As part of a cabinet reshuffle, he became Minister of Health and Family Planning on September 5, 1967 and held this office until February 14, 1969, when Kodardas Kalidas Shah succeeded him. In the course of this further cabinet reshuffle, he replaced Ram Subhag Singh as communications minister on February 14, 1969 and remained in this position until January 22, 1971. At the same time, he was again succeeded by Kodardas Kalidas Shah on February 14, 1969 as minister for information and Radio and held this post until February 22, 1971.

After his resignation from the Union government, Satya Narayan Sinha took over the post of governor of Madhya Pradesh on March 8, 1971 as the successor to K. Chengalaraya Reddy and held this office until October 13, 1977, after which Niranjan Nath Wanchoo succeeded him.

His marriage in 1918 resulted in a son and three daughters.
