Kofi Okyir (born June 7, 1951 ) is a former Ghanaian athlete .

Career

Okyir took part twice in the British Commonwealth Games : in 1970 in Edinburgh , Scotland , he was eliminated over 100 m in the preliminary run, in 1974 in Christchurch , New Zealand , he failed over 200 m in the quarterfinals. Together with Albert Lomotey , George Daniels and Ohene Karikari , Okyir won the silver medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay race on February 2, 1974 . In January 1973, the Ghanaian 4 x 100 meter relay won the silver medal at the Africa Games with Karikari, Daniels, Okyir and Lomotey.

Okyir reached his personal best over 100 yards with 9.40 s on April 12, 1974 in Austin ; this represents the best (electronically stopped) time of an African over this distance to date. On March 29, 1975, the Ghanaian ran the same distance in Lake Charles under irregular wind conditions in a hand- stopped 9.2 seconds. Over 200 yards , Okyir came to 20.8 s (hand-stopped) in 1974.

Okyir, 179 cm tall and 70 kg, attended Angelo State University and now lives in Houston , Texas .
