Kofi Yamgnane (born October 10, 1945 in Bassar ) is a French politician of Togolese origin.

Life

Yamgnane was born on October 10, 1945 in the Togolese city of Bassar. He learned the profession of mining engineer in France, and Yamgnane has had dual citizenship since 1975 .

Yamgnane began his political career in 1983 as a local politician for the Socialist Party in Brittany, and in 1989 he was appointed Mayor of Saint-Coulitz , Dept. Finistère , elected. Yamgnane was France's first black community leader. In 1991 he was appointed State Secretary for Integration at the Minister for Social Affairs, first in the government of Édith Cresson and then in the government of Bérégovoy . From 1992 to 1997 he was a member of the Regional Council of Brittany, in the XI. Election period of the French National Assembly from June 12, 1997 to June 18, 2002, he was a member of the 6th constituency of the Finistère department for the socialist party.

Among the presidential elections in Togo in 2005 Yamgnane announced on 3 March 2005 to a candidacy, but already ended that late March in favor Emmanuel Bob-Akitanis . For the 2010 presidential election in Togo , he is a candidate against Faure Gnassingbé . Yamagna's contacts with the French embassy led to the expulsion of the embassy’s first secretary and thus to a diplomatic crisis between Togo and France . According to the French view, the secretary of the embassy had not exceeded his powers, but had normal contacts with representatives of the opposition. France demands the recall of a Togolese diplomat of comparable rank.

In 2002 he published the book Nous grandirons ensemble , which sold 60,000 copies in three editions.
