Hummingbird or KolibriOS is a small, in x86 - assembly language written Open Source - Operating system . It was derived from MenuetOS and has been independently further developed since around 2004. The 64-bit distribution of MenuetOS is no longer offered as open source. Since 2005, KolibriOS has gained a larger number of user programs due to its open source and the growing developer community as a result, but remains limited to 32-bit technology and single-core operation. The last official update took place with version 0.7.7.0 in December 2009; However, nightly builds will continue to be regular (as of 2020) published on the homepage.
Functional
- Boot from different drives. Can be started by Windows (which will be shut down), NTFS is supported.
- Fits on a 1.44 MB floppy disk (many applications are compressed)
- Preemptive multitasking , streams, parallel execution of system calls, TCP / IP stack
- Graphic user interface is based on VESA
- Development kit: Code editor with integrated macro assembler ( FASM )

- Keyboard and mouse ( COM , PS / 2 or USB )

- Hard drives and some USB sticks. Supported file systems : FAT12 , FAT16 , FAT32 (with long filenames), NTFS , ext2 , ext4 (read only) and CDFS
- AC'97 audio codec support for chipsets from Intel , Nvidia (nForce, nForce2, nForce3 and nForce4), VIA (VT8233, VT8233C, VT8235, VT8237, VT8237R, VT8237R Plus), SIS (7012), ForteMedia (FM801) and Creative Labs (EMU10K1X)
- HD audio codec support on certain motherboards
- AMD and Intel graphics chipsets
