Kolones ( Greek Κολώνες ( f. Pl. )) Is a place in the south of the Greek island of Salamis . It is located on the southern slope of Mount Kochi (276 m). The place has three beaches and a small port. The name of the place means pillars . This indicates that ancient columns were still visible here earlier. This is confirmed by the archaeologist Dimitrios I Pallas, who found the capitals of two ancient Doric and an early Christian Ionic columns here.

There is a 130 m long beach in the western bay. In the west of the middle bay is the modern harbor and a 170 m wide beach and in the east another 170 m wide beach. The Akra Konchi lighthouse is around 500 m southeast of the village .

history

There was a small fortification on the Lykopoulos peninsula in the Early Helladic period . In classical times there was a port in the eastern bay. On the beach and in the water there are still some stone blocks from the harbor wall. The ceramic shards and roof tile fragments found show that the port remained in use until the early Christian era. 400 m north of the port was the small acropolis of Kolones. The name of the place in antiquity is not known. Some researchers wanted to see the city of Kychreia in it, which was founded by the mythical hero Kychreus and should be opposite the island of Aegina . The round tomb of Kolones is located on the western peninsula .
