A combi lift is a detachable monocable gondola in which cabins ( "gondolas" ) and chairs are lined up on a hoisting rope as means of transport.

technology

In the case of the Kombibahn (Telemix), closed cabins / gondolas and open lift chairs are used simultaneously and in alternating sequence on a single hoisting rope loop . With some combined lifts, chairs and gondolas can be put into circulation in any order. The entry and exit areas for the passengers in the lift chairs and the cabins are separated due to the different requirements for changing passengers (passengers with or without wearing winter sports equipment).

Combined lifts represent a hybrid of the cable car types gondola lift and chair lift .

A distinction must be Combined installations of the combination lifts . With the combination lifts, depending on the season, either a chair lift (summer operation) or a T-bar lift (winter operation, in the version as a T-bar lift) is used as a means of transport and the entrances and exits are converted accordingly.

use

Alpspitzbahn, Nesselwang

The use of a combined lift can be advantageous, for example, if a system is in operation all year round or the simultaneous transport of users with sports equipment strapped in and passengers without such sports equipment (tobogganers, hikers, passengers with reduced mobility) is required. Depending on personal preference, the skier can choose to be transported in an armchair, for example, and does not have to take off his skis , while the cabins are more suitable for other groups of passengers such as beginners, children's ski school groups or winter hikers. In summer, the gondola transport of wheelchairs, strollers, bicycles or paragliders is made possible, which cannot be transported in lift chairs or can only be transported to a limited extent.

Transport capacity and possible combinations

With this type of lift, there are several possible combinations of gondola and chair sizes.

  • 2-seater armchairs and 4-seater gondola: e.g. B. the new Gumenbahn, Braunwald GL / Switzerland , built in 2007, transport capacity per hour: 800 people. This version of the Kombibahn has only been built once. The lift replaced by the Kombibahn was a detachable 2-seater chairlift, made by Roll with sideways chairs. The chairs of the current lift are also placed sideways.
  • 4-seater armchairs and 4-seater gondola
  • 4-seater armchairs and 6-seater gondola
  • 4-seater armchairs and 8-seater gondola
  • 6-seater armchair and 8-seater gondola
  • 6-seater armchair and 10-seater gondola (Rif Nel Express, France )
  • 8-seater chair and 8-seater gondola (was built in Åre (VM8: AN ))
  • 8-seater chair and 10-seater gondola (available in Obertauern , Zillertal , Brixen im Thale and on the Arlberg )

The Kombibahn with the largest transport capacity to date is the Kombibahn Penken (built in 2010), it can transport 3900 people per hour in the 8-seater chair / 10-seater gondola version.

The combined lift with the lowest transport capacity to date is the Gumenbahn in Switzerland (built in 2007 in the version: 2-seater chair / 4-seater gondola).

Others

The first combined lift was built in Australia in 1986 : The Horse Hill Access in Mount Buller (Victoria) , version: 4-seater armchair / 4-seater gondola.

The ski area with the most combination lifts is Orcières-Merlette, France (built: 2003, 2005 and 2008, all versions: 6-seater armchairs / 8-seater gondola).

In Mayrhofen , Kombibahn Penken ( Tyrol ), separate loops were used for the first time in the stations for armchairs and gondolas (version 8-seater armchairs / 10 gondolas). So far, the exit was separate, but the vehicles in the same loop. In Penken / Mayrhofen, the 8-seater armchairs run on the shorter lane (inner loop), the 10-seater gondolas on a longer loop (outer loop). The exit of the long loop is electronically monitored so that the gondolas or armchairs are lined up in the right rhythm and spacing. This means that the 8-seater armchairs and 10-seater gondolas can be brought onto the hoist rope in any order. The adjustment between 8-seater armchairs and 10-seater gondolas is possible at any time depending on the season, the weather and the wishes of the passengers. A combined system on two sections is used on the Weibermahdbahn and the Auenfeldjet in Lech . On the lower Auenfeldjet section, 10-seater gondolas run through the middle station (and at the same time the valley station of the Weibermahdbahn); In this upper section, two 8-seater armchairs are coupled behind each of these gondolas, which only drive the upper section and bring winter sports enthusiasts to the Petersboden.
