Combine Unimewa

The Kombinat Unimewa Aue - Kombinat Universalmetallwaren (later also Kombinat for household goods) was an amalgamation of state- owned companies in the GDR that produced metal goods for household use. The association was established in 1970, the main company was the VEB Auer cutlery and silverware factory in Aue (Saxony) . In 1972 the company had 4,700 employees. The following companies were also included:

  • VEB Elstawa cutlery factory in Steinbach ,
  • VEB cutting tools and metal goods factory Klingenthal ; was privatized after reunification, but then given up,
  • VEB Pametall Pausa , which made dishes and cutlery from aluminum ,
  • VEB Aluminumwarenfabrik Fischbach / Rhön (AWF), whose range included baking and roasting equipment (previously also VEB AlFi),
  • VEB Union Quedlinburg , who manufactured pressure cookers,
  • VEB Geithainer enamelling factory ,
  • VEB Schwerter enamelling factory Lauter ,
  • Saxon aluminum and metal goods factory Glauchau and
  • CF Hutschenreuther & Co. KG in Aue, manufacturer of cutlery and tableware made of stainless steel (later VEB cutlery and metal goods (Bemet) Aue).

The combine was incorporated into the VEB Combine Household Appliances Karl-Marx-Stadt in 1979 . Individual companies reorganized themselves, such as the AWF, which was renamed BAF Fischbacher household goods GmbH and is still active on the market. In 2014 it celebrated its centenary.
