Commander of the Naval Defense of North Holland
The commandant of the naval defense of North Holland , or Seekommandant North Holland for short , was a regional coastal commander of the German navy in World War II based in Den Helder . He was subordinate to the naval commander in the Netherlands , from 1943 commanding admiral in the Netherlands .
history
After the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II in June 1940, the Navy deployed the naval commander of North Holland , who was responsible for the Dutch coast from the mouth of the Ems to Scheveningen . An exception was the island of Rottum , which was assigned to the adjacent Coast Commander East Friesland . In the south, the command area of the sea commander South Holland joined.
In November 1944, the southern part of the area was assigned to the newly created naval commander of Central Holland, including Ijmuiden and Wijk aan Zee . By the end of the war, other parts of the north were lost.
