After the German occupation of the Netherlands in the Second World War in June 1940, the Navy deployed the sea commander South Holland, who was responsible for the Dutch coast from a little south of Scheveningen to the Belgian border. In November 1944 parts of the command area were lost. Therefore, the northern part of the area was assigned to the newly created Seekommandantur Mittelholland , including Hoek van Holland , and the agency was dissolved.
