The Competence Center for Electrochemical Surface Technology ( Center for Electrochemical Surface Technology , acronym CEST ) is an Austrian, university-related and cooperative research company in the field of electrochemistry and surface technology . Its locations are in Wiener Neustadt and Linz .
history
CEST was founded in its current form in 2008 as part of the Austrian competence center program COMET ; ECHEM can be seen as a predecessor, which was a spin-off from the Seibersdorf nuclear research center . The company was founded as a cooperation between the Seibersdorf operator Austrian Institute of Technology , the Technical Universities of Vienna and Graz and the University of Linz with the steel technology companies Voestalpine and Andritz AG , the Vorarlberg coater Collini , and the European aerospace company Airbus .
The institute is located at the Technology and Research Center Wiener Neustadt (TFZ), and since 2018 also in Linz (Stahlstraße, VOEST site ). There used to be locations in Vienna and Graz.
activities
The institute is primarily concerned with the materials science of surfaces and interfaces, especially with the atmosphere, with a focus on electrochemistry , such as corrosion (focus in Linz). Bioelectrochemistry and sensor technology are increasingly being used .
The institute conducts basic research as well as innovation and problem-solving research for corporate partners and as contract research.
CEST is a co-organizer of international scientific symposia on topics such as electrochemical erosion and tribocorrosion .
