Koninklijke West Indian Mail Service
Koninklijke West-Indische Maildienst (KWIM, also known as Royal West Indian Mail Service ) was a Dutch shipping company based on the quay "De Ruijterkade" in Amsterdam . It operated a liner service for passengers and freight between Amsterdam, later Rotterdam , and the Dutch possessions in the West Indies and, in accordance with the contract, also took care of the postal services on these lines.
history
The shipping company was founded in 1882 and started operating from Amsterdam to Suriname and other Dutch possessions in the Caribbean in 1883 . From 1888 New York was also called .
In 1912 the KWIM was taken over as a subsidiary of the Koninklijke Nederlandsche Stoomboot Maatschappij (KNSM); however, their ships continued to sail under the KWIM flag. It was not until 1927 that the shipping company was liquidated and fully integrated into KNSM.
