Konrad Nesen

Konrad Nesen also: Nes (s) enus, Nastadiensis, Nysenus; (* around 1495 in Nastätten ; † June 25, 1560 in Zittau ) was a German humanist and mayor of Zittau.

Life

Coming from a humble background, he was lucky that his father, who worked in agriculture, was able to finance a degree for him and his older brother Wilhelm . It is possible that he had found patrons who made this possible for him. In 1519 you met him at the University of Paris , where he had started a law degree . Since he and his brother were informed about the conditions in the then lion, he published a "Dialogus sane quam festivus bilinguium ac trilingum, sive de funere Calliope" (1519 Leo), which satirically commented on the conditions there. In 1525 he moved to the University of Wittenberg to continue his law studies.

In 1530 he became a preceptor at King Ferdinand's court , but returned two years later to the Wittenberg University for health reasons and was promoted to licentiate in law. He is of Philipp Melanchthon recommended as town counsel to Zittau, where experienced a rise to 1541 as mayor and represents the interests of the city in the state parliament in Prague . There he sat on the committee that advised on the Turkish tax . In 1542 he was raised to the nobility and was helpful in carrying out the Reformation in churches and schools. Due to the Upper Lusatian Pönfall, he lost his work at the Zittau Council. Only in the following year did he manage to get to a council office and return goods to the city that had been lost in the Pönfall.
