Konrad Reidl

Konrad Reidl (born March 14, 1952 in Munich ) is a German ecologist and professor of vegetation and site studies as well as nature conservation at the Nürtingen-Geislingen University of Economics and Environment (HfWU) .

Life

Konrad Reidl studied landscape ecology and landscape planning at the Technical University of Munich - Weihenstephan and biology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . From 1978 to 1983 he was a research assistant at the University of Essen , Institute for Applied Biology, especially Applied Botany. From 1983 to 1990 he worked as a research assistant at the State Institute for Ecology in North Rhine-Westphalia . The main tasks were: landscape planning, nature conservation, urban ecology. In 1989 he received his doctorate at the University of Essen with the subject "Floristic and vegetation studies as a basis for species and biotope protection in the city - illustrated using the example of Essen".

In the summer semester of 1990 he was offered a professorship at the Nürtingen-Geislingen University of Economics and Environment (HfWU) , initially in the master’s degree in environmental protection, and from 1992 as professor for vegetation and site studies and nature conservation at the Faculty of Landscape Architecture, Environmental and Urban Planning.

His focus in research and transfer is primarily: maintenance, development and restoration of endangered habitats, renaturation of moors for the protection of species and biotopes as well as to reduce CO 2 emissions, management of Natura 2000 areas , recording and evaluation of ecosystem services , Development of biotope network systems, planning of large protected areas, development of urban green spaces and fallow land for species and biotope protection and for city dwellers, development of spaces to experience nature.

Konrad Reidl was visiting professor at the University of Stellenbosch (Department of Conservation Ecology and Entomology).

He is the director of the Institute Center for Applied Research at the Nürtingen-Geislingen University of Economics and Environment and leads numerous and extensive projects in applied research. Furthermore, he is director of the Institute for Environmental Planning (IUP) at the HfWU, with which he transfers scientific knowledge to landscape and nature conservation planning.
