Konrad Scheuber (* 1481 in Altzellen , today Wolfenschiessen ; † March 2, 1559 ibid) was a Swiss governor , judge and hermit .

Life

His parents were Hans (Hensli) Scheuber and Dorothea von Flüe. Konrad's mother was the daughter of the Swiss mystic and holy brother Klaus ( Niklaus von Flüe ), who lived in neighboring Obwalden from 1417 to 1487. Konrad Scheuber took part in the Italian campaigns, fought at Pavia in 1512 and in the battle of Marignano in 1515 . He stood out in 1513 at Novara . From 1507 he held numerous public offices in his homeland.

From 1528 Konrad Scheuber was appointed judge. In 1543 he became Landammann of Nidwalden . Following the example of his grandfather Niklaus von Flüe, he left the public world in 1544 and retired as a hermit, initially in the Ranft near Sachseln. 1547 he backed the Bettelrüti near his home on Altzellen in Wolfenschiessen out. As brother Konrad, he was also an advisor for councilors and judges as well as for ordinary people. He became a kind of father of the country. Although he was never beatified, he is revered to this day.

After his death on March 2, 1559, his body was reburied twice until it found its final resting place in the new parish church of Wolfenschiessen in 1777. The former Hermit's hermitage has been placed next to the church since 1867. His grave became a place of pilgrimage.

His marriage to Margaretha Roth had two daughters, Dorothea and Christine. Daughter Dorothea married the respected district administrator, builder and district administrator Andreas Z'Rotz. The younger daughter Christine married Melchior Christen von Wolfenschiessen.
