Execution of the mayor Konrad Vorlauf

Konrad Vorlauf (* around 1335; † July 11, 1408 in Vienna ( executed )) was an Austrian politician and mayor of Vienna .

Life

Konrad Vorlauf was a member of the Inner Council of Vienna from 1399 to 1403 and mayor of Vienna from 1403 to 1404 . After that he was councilor again, but from 1406 again mayor. Like the city's bourgeois and political elite, he supported Duke Ernst the Iron in the conflict with his brother Leopold IV over the Habsburg inheritance. The poorer Vienna as well as the craft supported Leopold. When the two brothers and their entourage faced each other north of Vienna in 1408, attempts were made to instigate an uprising in Vienna in favor of Leopold. Vorlauf had the ringleaders arrested and publicly executed on January 5th.

After the armistice of January 14, 1408, the two brothers entered Vienna without a fight. Subsequently, the mood in Vienna turned to the disadvantage of the preliminary run. The craft guilds urged Vorlauf to be held accountable for his attitude in winter. Konrad Vorlauf was then arrested and on July 11, 1408, together with councilors Hans Rockh and Konrad Ramperstorffer, publicly beheaded with a sword on the pig market - today's Lobkowitzplatz .

A grave slab in front of the Friedrichsgrab in the south choir in Vienna's St. Stephen's Cathedral commemorated Konrad Vorlauf , which was lost in the course of the fire in the cathedral in April 1945. In 1886 the Vorlaufstrasse in Vienna's inner city was named after him.
