Konrad von Rothenstein

Konrad von Rothenstein († in the 14th century) was the progenitor of the noble family von Rothenstein . He was also governor of the Princely Monastery of Kempten . The ancestral seat of the von Rothenstein family was at Rothenstein Castle , of which only ruins are preserved today.

Possessions and history

Conrad von Rothenstein can be documented in 1293. At this time he is the lord of the gentlemen Schönegg , Grönenbach, Woringen and Wolkenberg. In 1315 Konrad von Rothenstein also owns half of the city of Babenhausen . Hausen Castle in the Rhine Valley was owned by St. Gallen Monastery in 1320 .

In 1323 Konrad von Rothenstein signed a contract with Archduke Leopold I of Austria for the construction of two castles in Woringen, the lower and the upper castle.

The three siblings Ludwig, Hermann and Konrad were first mentioned in 1239. It is not clear from the literature whose son Konrad was.


After Konrad von Rothenstein, two lines of von Rothenstein developed. These were continued by Ludwig “the old” von Rothenstein and Friedrich von Rothenstein. The first line died out with Ludwig von Rothenstein in 1482, the second line with Heinrich von Rothenstein in 1562.

Descendants

  • Johannes von Rothenstein was a knight in the order of the German lords . Nothing more is known about him.
  • Heinrich von Rothenstein inherited Babenhausen, but in 1363 he sold it to Albrecht von Rechberg for 6000  florins . Heinrich von Rothenstein lived in Grönenbach. From his marriage to a certain Elsbeth a daughter Ella was born. He bequeathed all of his possessions to his nephew of the same name Heinrich von Rothenstein, a son of Ludwig the old von Rothenstein.
  • Ludwig the old von Rothenstein received Rothenstein-Grönenbach as well as the lower Woringen castle when the estate was divided in 1339.
  • Friedrich von Rothenstein inherited Zell and Woringen in 1339, as well as other estates in Albrechts and Ebersbach.
  • Konrad von Rothenstein received Wolkenberg Castle and was executed by citizens of Kempten in 1344 after killing a citizen.
  • Anna von Rothenstein became abbess in the Edelstetten monastery .
