Konstantin Sergeyev ( Russian Константин Михайлович Сергеев , scientific. Transliteration Konstantin Sergeev Michajlovič ; born February 20 . Jul / 5. March  1910 greg. In St. Petersburg ; † 1. April 1992 ,) was a Russian ballet dancer.

Life

Sergeyev was a solo dancer at the State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater in Leningrad between 1930 and 1961 . As a master dancer he was successful in classical ballet pieces as well as in modern Russian works such as Bakhchysaraj's Fountain of Tears , Lost Illusions and The Bronze Rider . After Galina Ulanova switched to the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow , the prima ballerina Natalja Dudinskaja became his new solo partner, whom he later married.

An injury ended his career as the first solo dancer of the Kirov Ballet in 1961 , his successor was Rudolf Nureyev . From 1951 to 1955 and from 1960 to 1970 Sergejew was the artistic director and choreographer of the ballet company . During this time he particularly cultivated the tradition of classical ballet . In 1970 Hamlet was re-produced under his direction . Sergejew received several awards for his achievements, including the Lenin Prize in 1970 .

After the escape of the dancer Natalja Makarova during a tour of the United Kingdom, Sergejew was relieved of his functions in 1970. In 1973 he was called back to the Kirov Ballet as director of the choreographic school. In 1988 he retired.
