Konstantin Mitgutsch

Konstantin Mitgutsch (born March 15, 1980 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian researcher, author and game developer in the field of educational learning theories and computer game research .

Career

Mitgutsch studied educational science, sociology and journalism at the University of Vienna and the Humboldt University in Berlin from 1999 to 2003 . From 2005 to 2009 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Educational Science at the University of Vienna and in 2009 he received his doctorate with the dissertation “Learning through disappointment”. From 2009 to 2013 Mitgutsch researched at the Education Arcade and the MIT GAME LAB of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a Max Kade scholar in the field of learning and computer games and developed the serious games "Afterland" (2009, Singapore-MIT Gambit) at the Singapore-MIT Gambit Game Lab Game Lab) and "Movers and Shakers" (2012, Singapore-MIT Gambit Game Lab). In 2011 Konstantin Mitgutsch was visiting professor at the University of Vienna and since 2013 he has been working as a research affiliate at the MIT Game Lab in Boston and as a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna . Since 2007 he has organized the annual Vienna Games Conference (FROG). and in 2014 he founded the consulting company "Playful Solutions"

His research focuses on computer game research, serious game design and the use of new media in change processes. In his work and research he is particularly concerned with the question of how games and game mechanics can be used to solve real challenges. At MIT, Mitgutsch and Narda Alvarado developed a model for the analysis and design of games with serious purposes, the "Serious Game Design Assessment Framework", which is currently used in various design and research projects.
