Konstantin Popov

Konstantin Popov (* 1958 in Charkow , Soviet Union ) is a Russian-German guitarist on the classical concert guitar.

Life

education

Popov studied classical guitar concert , first from 1975 to 1981 at the Leningrad Academy of Music , and later from 1983 to 1988 at the Conservatory in Lviv .

Playing technique and specialization

In 1979 Popov began to develop his probably unique 10-finger technique: he played permanently on the fingerboard with the thumb of his left hand; if necessary, he also uses the little finger of the right hand. This playing technique is unique and allows him to play the pieces in the respective original keys without having to transpose them into other keys for playback on the guitar . With this innovative technique he opened up fundamentally new possibilities for interpretation to the classical guitar. Konstantin Popov himself used this technique to specialize in the literature of JS Bach , as it enables him to play many pieces that were actually composed for keyboard instruments, true to the original, from the original notes.

But it ranges from Russian Roma folklore and Jewish klezmer to international world music. So he is u. a. Instrumental accompanist for the Yiddish singer Anna Werliková .

International appearances

Performances as a soloist took place from Russia to Poland , Finland , Austria , Germany and Switzerland .

Private

Konstantin Popov is married and has two daughters. He lives with his family in Berlin.
