Konstantinos Kourouniotis

Konstantinos Kourouniotis ( Greek Κωνσταντίνος Κουρουνιώτης ; * 1872 in Chios ; † 1945 in Athens ) was a Greek classical archaeologist .

Life

Kourouniotis began to study archeology at the University of Jena . In 1890 he became active in the Corps Saxonia Jena . When he was inactive , he moved to the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , where he was awarded a Dr. phil. received his doctorate . His long career in the archaeological service began as a curator (Ephorus) of archaeological sites and led to the director of the National Archaeological Museum of Athens . He took part in several excavations, such as on Milos , Antikythira , Olympia and Eleusis . In 1902, the Archaeological Society of Athens began systematic archaeological research in the region around the Temple of Apollo near Bassae under his leadership . From 1917 Kourouniotis was engaged in researching the Demeter sanctuary in Eleusis.

In 1929 he became a member of the Academy of Athens .
