Koo Wee Rup is a small town 75 km southeast of Melbourne in Cardinia Shire in the state of Victoria in Australia . The place is known for its vegetables and especially asparagus cultivation . Today (as of 2016) 2,281 people live here.
Before the Europeans, the Aborigines of the Bunurong settled here , from whose language the place name comes: “ ku-wirup ” means “ a lot of Blackfish ” or “ Blackfish schools ” (Blackfish = black saw bass = Centropristis striata).
