Bosnian War

In the Bosnian war in 1992 also Kopanice was hit hard. The Serbian population left the village knowing that the Republika Srpska army was planning an attack. Kopanice and Vidovice took it at Easter 1992 and drove out all Catholic families. The Catholic Church was looted and damaged. The village was mined and extensively damaged, but was largely rebuilt within five years. In October 1992 the 106th Brigade of the HVO captured Kopanice and the neighboring town of Vidovice .
