KAIST

KAIST (formerly Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology ) is a university in South Korea based in Daejeon . An offshoot, the KAIST Graduate School of Management , which awards an MBA , is located in Seoul .

history

  • February 16, 1971: Establishment of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science (KAIS) in Seoul
  • January 5, 1981: Establishment of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) through the merger with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST)
  • June 12, 1989: Separation from KIST
  • July 4, 1989: Merger with the Korea Institute of Technology (KIT)
  • October 1, 1996: Establishment of the Korea Institute of Advanced Study (KIAS)
  • January 1, 2008: Renamed KAIST , the full name is dropped

Ranking

In the QS World University Ranking 2018/19, KAIST took 40th place worldwide and 8th place in Asia. In the QS World University Ranking 2009, KAIST took 21st place worldwide in engineering & IT and 1st place in Korea. The KAIST was also named the best university in Korea by the daily JoongAng Ilbo . KAIST is also listed as the best university in Korea and 7th in Asia in the regional ranking of Asian universities in the QS World University Rankings.

The Times Higher Education placed the KAIST in 2014 at No. 3 of the best universities that have been established only within the last 50 years.
