Kornelis Sneyders de Vogel

Kornelis Sneyders de Vogel (born December 27, 1876 in Schiedam , † August 26, 1958 in Groningen ) was a Dutch Romanist .

life and work

Sneyders de Vogel studied in Leiden and received his doctorate with the thesis Quaestiones ad coniunctivi usum in posteriore latinitate (Schiedam 1903). From 1901 to 1904 he studied at the Sorbonne and in Toulouse with Alfred Jeanroy . Then he was a high school teacher in Assen . In 1907 he became a lecturer in Romance philology in Leiden.

In 1920 he followed Jean-Jacques Salverda de Grave to the chair of Romance Philology at the University of Groningen and until his retirement in 1946 taught Provençal, Old Spanish, Old Italian and Vulgar Latin in addition to French . He published numerous articles in the journal Neophilologus .

Sneyders de Vogel was an honorary doctor from the Universities of Montpellier and Lyon.

Kornelis Sneyders de Vogel was the father of Kornelis Sneyders de Vogel Jr., who received his doctorate with his thesis Les Mots d'identité et d'égalité dans les langues romanes. Proefschrift ter Verkrijging van den graad van doctor in de letteren en wijsbegeerte aan de Rijksuniversiteit te Groningen (Wageningen 1947) and who published a list of his publications.
