Korogwe is a city in the Tanga region in northeastern Tanzania . The city lies on the Pangani and near the confluence of the Mkomazi and Luengera at the foot of the Usambara Mountains . Korogwe had around 27,000 inhabitants in 2002 and is the capital of the Korogwe district . The city is the stop of the Usambara train .

history

The city was originally founded on an island in Pangani. Here was the intersection of two long-distance trade routes , one to Lake Victoria and one to Ugodo in the Dodoma region .
