Precious Blood of Christ (Dörentrup)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Precious Blood of Christ was a Roman Catholic parish church in Dörentrup in the Lippe district , North Rhine-Westphalia . It was a branch church of the Heilig-Geist-Kirche in Lemgo and most recently belonged to the pastoral association Lemgo-Nordlippe of the Dean's Office Bielefeld-Lippe in the Archdiocese of Paderborn .

history

After the Second World War , the number of Catholics in the Lippe district increased, so that a separate church in Dörentrup was necessary. It was created in 1962/63 according to plans by Joachim-G. Hank.

In 2003 the church was demolished without replacement, the property was sold and a residential building was built over it.

architecture

The church consisted of whitewashed exposed concrete and masonry. The upper wall zones were later covered with artificial slate. The ground plan of the church was determined from two interpenetrating shapes. A rectangle and a square were placed inside each other and could be distinguished from the outside by different heights and building materials. The higher square was covered by a tent roof. The bell tower rose above the vestibule and consisted of four brick pillars on a square floor plan that converged in a cross shape at the top. The bell chamber was in the upper third of the tower. The roof cross and rooster were made by the sculptor Friedel Denecke . The roof cross is now in the Church of St. Peter and Paul in Barntrup .

Furnishing

The church was illuminated by a circumferential band of light by Hubert Spierling from 1963. The corners of the square that left the rectangular building were optically separated by vertical light strips. In the corner of the altar there were two reliefs by the sculptor Josef Rikus . The block-shaped altar and the low tabernacle also came from his hand .
