Kozí hrádek (Mikulov)
Kozí hrádek (German Gaisburg ) is a late Gothic artillery tower on the Kozí vrch ( Gaisberg , 288 m nm) in Mikulov ( Nikolsburg ), Czech Republic . Together with the castle and the Holy Mountain, the tower ruins shape the cityscape. Today it serves as a lookout tower.
Location and description
Kozí hrádek is located north above the center of Mikulov on the limestone cliff Kozí vrch. The rectangular, two-storey tower was provided with a gallery and pierced with loopholes on the first storey.
The Kozí hrádek ruin is accessible when the flag is raised or by prior arrangement.
history
The tower was built in the 15th century by the Lords of Liechtenstein to monitor the trade route leading from Vienna to Brno , to increase the defensive capacity of Nikolsburg and to protect the city of Nikolsburg.
