The curled spiders (Zoropsidae) are a family of the real spiders (Araneomorphae) and belong to the superfamily of the Lycosoidea . The family includes 26 genera with 178 species worldwide . (As of November 2017)

The main ranges of the curled spiders are the Mediterranean area , South Africa , Australia and New Zealand , Japan , Korea and parts of China . In addition, Zoropsis spinimana was introduced on the west coast of the USA and now also in Central Europe . Due to climate change, it is also beginning to settle in southern Germany.

description

Curled spiders have a wolf spider-like build and are free-hunted spiders. In contrast to the wolf spiders (Lycosidae), however, they are cribellate spiders , i.e. they produce a fine catching wool instead of coarser adhesive threads.

Systematics
