Kröpelwarthe
The Kröpelwarthe in the Vollenschier district of the Hanseatic city of Stendal was a late medieval watch tower with an inn.
It stood at the southeastern tip of the Vinzelberg district , on the north side of a ditch one kilometer west of Wittenmoor on today's K 1058 road. It was built in 1409 by the Stendaler Council together with the Deetzer Warte five kilometers north-west . The name Kriepelwahrt was first named in 1745. In 1790 the name was Krüppelwarthe , in 1804 Krüppelwarte and in 1888 finally Kröpelwarthe . Ludwig Götze wrote in 1873: “Your name is still preserved in that of the inn of the same name, although the remains of the old building were removed about 40 years ago.” Wilhelm Zahn wrote in 1909: “After the control room lost its military importance, it was dated Council ceded to the privy councilor Scharden on December 1, 1672. The tower has fallen into disrepair, the rampart and moat have been preserved, there are also some cottages . At the beginning of the 20th century there was a school camp there. Wall and ditch can still be seen on topographic maps today. In 1372 a battle between the Harz counts and the Stendalers took place nearby, which Theodor Fontane reported in his hikes .
