The Hugschwendi power plant is a storage power plant on the Stöckalp at the end of the Melchtal and was commissioned in 1957. It uses the water of the Melchsee-Frutt catchment area , which is stored in the two reservoirs Tannensee and Melchsee . The power plant is operated by the Obwalden electricity company (EWO).
The plant works with two Pelton turbines with an output of 7 MW each and has a gross gradient of 830 m. The annual production is approx. 35 GWh .
The power plant was built from 1955. Previously, the water from the Melchsee was used by the Stäubiloch turbine system .
