The Lom Pangar power plant ( French Barrage hydroélectrique de Lom Pangar ) is a hydropower plant in the Est region , Cameroon , which is located on the Lom . The power plant is owned and operated by Electricity Developement Corporation (EDC).
The power plant is located about 4 km below the confluence of the Pangar and the Lom and about 13 km upstream from the confluence of the Lom and the Sanaga .
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is an earth embankment dam with a length of 1278 m and a height of 45.5 m. The width of the dam crest is 7 m.
Reservoir
With the normal storage target of 672.70 m, the reservoir extends over an area of around 540 km² and holds 6 billion m³ of water. The reservoir serves to regulate the flow of the Lom and Sanaga ; Among other things, it is intended to optimize the generation of electricity at the Edéa and Song Loulou hydropower plants located downstream on the Sanaga .
The secured discharge of the Sanaga will increase through the reservoir from 720 m³ / s to 1040 m³ / s; the secured output of the two power plants on the Sanaga will increase by 120 MW . In the long term, the reservoir also opens up the possibility of building a chain of hydropower plants on the Sanaga.
power plant
The Lom Pangar power plant has a total of four Francis turbines , each with a maximum output of 7.5 MW , and an installed capacity of 30 MW. A 105 km long 90 kV overhead line leads from the power plant to Bertoua , where it is connected to Cameroon's eastern power grid.
Others
The World Bank estimated the total cost of the project to nearly 500 million USD .
