The Sestrimo Power Plant is a hydropower plant in the Pazardzhik Oblast , Bulgaria . It has an installed capacity of 240 MW . The power plant uses the water from the Belmeken dam, 8 km away, to generate electricity. The village of Sestrimo is northeast of the power plant.

The power plant is owned by Nazionalna elektritscheska kompanija EAD (NEK EAD) and is also operated by NEK EAD.

power plant

The power plant went into operation in 1974 and is used to cover peak loads . It has an installed capacity of 240 MW . The average annual production is 229 million kWh . The 2 Pelton turbines with vertical shaft have an output of 120 MW each.

From the power plant Belmeken a tunnel leads (length 3456 m, diameter 4.10 m) as well as an adjoining 1466 m long discharge pipe to the power plant Sestrimo; through them, the water from the Belmeken dam is forwarded to the Sestrimo power plant after it has been used in the Belmeken power plant. The drop height is 539 m and the maximum flow is a total of 56.6 m³ / s.

After use, the water from the Sestrimo power plant is forwarded to the Momina Klisura power plant .
