The Teschel Power Plant is a hydropower plant in Smolyan Oblast , Bulgaria . It has an installed capacity of 60  MW . The power plant uses the water from the Dospat dam , which is around 15 km away, to generate electricity.

The power plant is owned by Nazionalna elektritscheska kompanija EAD (NEK EAD) and is also operated by NEK EAD.

power plant

The power plant has an installed capacity of 60  MW . The average annual production is 18 million  kWh . The 2 Francis turbines have an output of 30 MW each; they are located in an above-ground machine house.

From the Dospat dam there is a pressure pipeline that supplies the Teschel hydropower plant, which is around 15 km away, with the necessary water. The drop height is 341 m and the maximum flow is a total of 26 m³ / s.

Teschel dam

A dam was built below the power plant with a height of 30 m above the foundation level . The length of the dam crest is 200 m. The top of the dam is at a height of 861 m above sea level . The dam has a clay core for sealing.

With the normal storage target of 858 m (max. 860 m), the reservoir extends over an area of around 0.1 km² and holds 1.37 million m³ of water - of which 0.64 million m³ can be used to generate electricity. The minimum congestion destination up to which electricity generation is still possible is 851 m.

The dam has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 35 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 354 m³ / s via the flood discharge.

The water is directed from the reservoir to the Dewin power plant , which is about 10 km away .
