history

The private savings association founded on October 19, 1852 in Tübingen was the forerunner of the Oberamtssparkasse Tübingen. The savings association operated so successfully that it was able to convince the official assembly to found an Oberamtssparkasse. August 17, 1854 was the hour of birth of the Oberamtssparkasse Tübingen. On that day, the private savings association dissolved and ceded its money to the Oberamtssparkasse.

In 1922 the distinctive three-story house at Am Lustnauer Tor was acquired, which housed the Hans Karle restaurant , where the Sparkasse's head office was located. The main office was set up in the former restaurant: the counter hall was set up in the day tavern and the management room was set up in the wine bar. The clerks had their offices in the rest of the building.

With the introduction of the district order on January 27, 1934, the Oberamtssparkasse Tübingen was given the name Kreissparkasse Tübingen . As part of the district reform on April 25, 1938, the Oberamtssparkasse Rottenburg, founded in 1897, was incorporated into the Kreissparkasse Tübingen.

After the Second World War, the main office building was no longer sufficient and extensions were built on both sides in Doblerstrasse and Österbergstrasse. In an extension from 1985–1988, a large customer hall was built between the two wings of the main building and the extension. The steadily growing bank was forced to rent the building of the former high school office, which was almost opposite in Doblerstrasse, for its employees. The spatial problems were solved by the construction of a new business center ( Sparkassen Carré ) in the Mühlbachäckerstraße in the Mühlenviertel development area in 2006. The main office at Am Lustnauer Tor was retained and extensively modernized between 2014 and 2017 through a renovation (including new construction of the customer hall).
