The forerunners of today's Kreissparkasse were brought into being more than 130 years ago by the senior offices of the time. So in 1880 the Oberamtssparkasse Backnang and in 1894 the Oberamtssparkasse Waiblingen came into being. With the establishment of so-called Oberamtsspar- und Leihkassen, the "poorer sections of the population should be able to collect smaller amounts for the vicissitudes of life and the spreading usury of credit should be halted by means of loans on serious terms."
In the more than 130-year history of the Sparkasse, the business area of the Sparkasse has changed repeatedly. In 1938, the district savings banks Schorndorf, Waiblingen and Welzheim merged in the course of the reorganization of the state. In the course of the district reform in Baden-Württemberg, the Kreissparkasse Backnang and Waiblingen merged in 1974 to form today's Kreissparkasse Waiblingen.
