The Kreisverkehrsgesellschaft (KVG) Main-Kinzig is the directing organization of the Main-Kinzig-Kreis in the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Main-Kinzig-Kreis. It was founded on October 1, 1994. It consists of the business areas “Local Public Transport” and “School Transport”. The latter was integrated into the KVG at the beginning of 2008 within the framework of a task and loan agreement.

In addition, there are tasks in the field of school transport such as reimbursement of school travel expenses, planning and awarding of transport services within the framework of special educational support and the non-integrable, exempted school transport.

The public transport offer in the Main-Kinzig district

The public transport offer in the Main-Kinzig district consists of a regional express line, eight regional train or city ​​express lines, nine regional bus routes and 54 bus routes in local jurisdiction, which run, for example, in city traffic.

The KVG does not have its own buses and does not operate its own bus routes, but commissions other companies. These currently 14 transport companies cover more than six million kilometers annually with more than 160 vehicles.

As of December 31, 2007, school transport made up 65 percent of the total income of the KVG.
