The two lowest leaflets are separated from the other leaflets and pressed against the stalks like stipules, the upper leaflets are obovate.

Three to six flowers each form a cluster . The calyx is 7.5 to 9 millimeters in size and bell-shaped or slightly two-lipped. The crown is 12 to 18 millimeters in size and brightly yellow in color. The flag is entire, the boat has a long, straight and purple navel. The fruits are cylindrical pods up to 4 centimeters long.

The flowering period extends from March to June.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 28, less often 14.

Occurrence

The Crete horn clover occurs in the Mediterranean area as well as in Portugal. It is missing in Crete, but was erroneously named after this island. It mainly grows on sandy beaches.
