history

Kretschmanns Hof in the year of completion

In 1910, three pieces of land on Leipziger Katharinenstraße were combined to build an office and commercial building. The existing building on the middle lot was called Kretschmanns Hof after the owner in 1871 . This house name carried over to the new building, which was built in 1912 according to a design by Leipzig architect Max Fricke (1874–1934?).

Right from the start it housed one of Leipzig's first silent film cinemas, the Monopol Theater (bottom left in the picture). It had 328 seats and had its own house chapel.

After German reunification , Kretschmann's courtyard was renovated, with the courtyard area being given a glass roof. The Leipziger Pfeffermühle cabaret has had its venue in Kretschmanns Hof since 2011 .

description

Glass roof of the courtyard

Kretschmanns Hof is a four-wing, five-storey reinforced concrete skeleton building with an approximately thirty meter wide sandstone facade facing Katharinenstrasse. The middle three of the seven axes with large window areas are arched like bay windows from the second floor and merge into a large dwelling . The eight pillars have sparse ornamental decorations. Two pairs of putti adorn the middle of the fourth floor. The gable roof supports four wide dormers .

The elongated courtyard is tiled in white and has a bent glass roof over the first floor. An angled corridor leads into the elongated courtyard of the Blauer und Goldener Stern house.
