Kretzer (wine)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kretzer is in the German-South Tyrol (→ South Tyrol (wine region) ) the name of one of red grape varieties produced rosé . The Italian name equivalent is Rosato .

Kretzer are mainly pressed in the Trentino and South Tyrol region from the Lagrein grape varieties or the related Teroldego, largely without must fermentation. The fresh, pale red wines with often complex herbal aromas can be quite alcoholic. Kretzer are mainly produced in the Bolzano area and in the South Tyrolean Unterland, especially in Gries near Bolzano, as well as in the DOC Teroldego Rotaliano .

The name Kretzer derives from the scabies (also Kretze ), a basket woven from willow through which the pressed must flowed, separating it from the last berry pods and stems. This procedure was called kretzern .
