List of grape varieties

Teroldego is an autochthonous red wine variety from northern Italy .

distribution

The Teroldego vine comes from the Trentino , where it is mainly found in the Rotaliana plain (Campo Rotaliano) in the Adige Valley at an altitude of approx. 220 m above sea level. the sea where the Noce flows into the Adige , on almost 600 hectares (as of 1999). Over time, the Noce has transported stony debris from the mountains into the plains. This poor gravel soil, together with the microclimate, offers favorable growth conditions. The adjacent rocks store the heat during the day and release it at night.

The grape variety has been cultivated in the Rotaliana plain since the 14th century and was first mentioned in a document in 1383. The wine is said to have been served on the occasion of the Council of Trent .

There are other stocks in Istria , on Lake Garda and in California (→ Viticulture in California ) and New Zealand .

features

The late-ripening variety produces fruity, dark red wines with relatively low levels of tannin , which can be prone to reduction . It is at low risk from the vine diseases powdery mildew , downy mildew of the grapevine and raw rot . Their wines are included in the Denominazione di origine controllata wines of Teroldego Rotaliano and Sorni .

In 2004, the “Istituto agrario di San Michele all'Adige” today, Fondazione Edmund Mach in Conegliano, confirmed a close first degree genetic relationship with the Lagrein and Marzemino varieties and a connection to the French Syrah variety via the Dureza variety .
