Teroldego Rotaliano

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Teroldego Rotaliano is a wine-growing area for dry red wine and rosé wine in Trentino . The appellation, which has enjoyed the status of a Denominazione di origine controllata (DOC for short) since February 18, 1971 , is named after the Teroldego grape and the Campo Rotaliano plain in the Adige valley . The denomination was last updated on March 7, 2014.

Growing area

The plain is about 220  m slm at the confluence of the Etsch (Italian: Adige) and Noce , not far from the Brenner motorway ( A22 ). The beautifully situated vineyards lie on sandy, lime-rich soil over layers of gravel that were transported from the mountains by the Noce. The areas are framed by mountains up to 1,850 meters high. The production zone includes the municipalities of Mezzocorona and Mezzolombardo and the Grumo district of the municipality of San Michele all'Adige in the province of Trento . The area is about 20 km north of the city of Trento , not far from the Sorni wine-growing region .

In 2016, 40,244 hectoliters of DOC wine were produced from 422 hectares of vineyards .

Manufacturing

The wines are made from the Teroldego grape variety . The vines of this red wine variety are traditionally raised on pergolas . Other winemakers in Mezzolombardo, on the other hand, prefer the Guyot system , which requires more maintenance, but delivers higher quality grapes.
